Monday Questionnaire
Teddy bear holding a heart Edition

1. Let's get right to it: any Valentine's Day plans?

2. In elementary school, did you give valentines to everyone in the class, or only to the kids you liked?

3. If you are single, do you find the holiday nauseating? If you are not single, do you find it more nauseating or less nauseating than you did when you were?

1. We haven't really decided. He has class that night; I want to go to capoeira the next night; we've already been eating out too much lately...I wanted to go to see the annual showing of "Casablanca" at the Brattle for Valentine's but...he has class that night.

2. I don't remember. Probably everyone or no one.

3. I find the holiday less irritating than I did when I was single, but still sort of silly and a trifle burdensome.

1. As this year is my first V-day with the girlfriend, I asked her a few weeks ago what she thought of the holiday. "I think it's stupid," she said. "Oh good," I said. "I think it's stupid too."

Except now that it's here, I do have something in the works. I hope she likes it.

2. Until fifth grade, I gave to everybody because it was the nice thing to do. In fifth and sixth grades, I gave to everybody so that I could maintain plausible deniability vis-a-vis the girls I actually liked.

3. kStyle put this well: silly and a trifle burdensome. I was just in the supermarket buying groceries, and the aisle of candy and cards was swarmed. I thought, "If this is the only day all year you show the person you love them, and you do it by buying a teddy bear holding a heart, your relationship is probably doomed anyway. And if you show it every day, then why do you need a teddy bear holding a heart?"

We ended up celebrating Valentine's last night. I spontaneously brought home dinner (ceasar salad, rich and delicious eggplant lasagna, and garlic bread) and some red tulips. I set these up in the living room before G arrived home. (It's a treat for him to watch TV while eating, though we didn't turn it on until afterwards.) He gave me a card: on the front, a valentine heart candy that reads "DO ME"; inside: "NOW". We died laughing at it. He also got me a tea infuser with a little heart at the end of the chain. So sweet!

That heart candy is hilarious. What a nice evening!
