Ooh, this is an interesting one.

1. A few people have accused me of being cold/distant. This is not true. My accusers are needy people with poor boundaries. :D

2. I've outgrown excessive chattering.

3. I try to avoid lacking mindfulness; that is to say, I try to cultivate mindfulness. My mom, love her to death, doesn't always notice what's right in front of her, because...she's too busy chattering.

1. Snobbishness, too--although, in some cases, they're probably right. I am just not interested in what certain people have to say.

2. The tendency to care so much about what other people think of me that I change my behavior and/or make excuses. I've only partly outgrown this one.

3. Resentfulness and bitterness, two of the least useful responses to any situation

1. Unhappiness. I rant a lot, and people who don't know me well or who aren't paying attention don't always realize that I'm actually pretty content, and the ranting is a way of working out how to make things better.
2. Self-righteousness. Yeah, I probably still come off that way sometimes, but I think it comes from insecurity, and I'm less insecure (or I care less about the fact that I'm insecure, which isn't the same thing) than I used to be.
3. I'm with Ann on this one. When I find myself on the resentful/bitter path, I try very hard to practice compassion, which I've found to be a useful antidote.
