The Only Fun Thing About Mondays? Questionnaire.

1. Name a misconception someone might have about you if she spent a day hanging out with you.

2. Complete the following sentence: If the people I work with knew that I _________, they would look at me funny.

3. In fifteen words or fewer, name an opinion you have that might or would be considered controversial. Here's the catch: though the rest of us can respond to it, you won't be asked to defend it.

1. If it was this past weekend, my companion would probably think I did little except homework, and that my taste in movies is bad. (I can't believe I sat through a washed-out 16mm print of "To Catch a Thief." I also can't believe it was made by the same guy who made "The Birds," "Psycho," and "Notorious.")

2. If the people I work with knew that I share with my friends all of the stupid things they say and how completely misguided their sensibilities and values are, they would look at me funny. At the very least.

3. Novels by women authors are more likely to be boring than those by men.

1. Lots of people think I'm a vegetarian. I'm not. This has replaced the former assumption, during college, that I was Jewish.

2. appeared in a "Girls Gone Wild" video

3. I'd consider voting for John McCain, because I respect anyone who thinks for himself.

I realize now that I answered Number 3 assuming that everyone in the world lives in a blue state. Thank you, thank you.

Well, my thinking in adding that rule was that we could all feel free to express ourselves without worrying about how to defend it for another 25 comment posts. Sometimes it's exhausting to have to do that, especially when the thing being defended is more gut instinct than staked-out position.

I'm happy to relax or cancel that part of the question, though, if you'd like to share an opinion.

1. Misconception: Jones is a cynic. I am not a cynic. I'm a skeptic.
2. If the people I work with knew that I have been tear-gassed by riot police, they would look at me funny.
3. Controversial opinion: The single biggest problem in the world is organized religion. Next-worst is disorganized religion.

PS: I'm willing to defend my opinion against a reasoned challenge.

1. She might have the misconception that I am always considerate of others.

2. If the people I work with knew that I slept with their wives, they would look at me funny.

3. My answer to number 2 was amusing.

Larry--I think there's a story in your #2. Care to tell?

Ben--I was amused by your answer.

And for the record, I also amused myself with my second answer.

Ann: it occurs that your response to #3 may have itself been intended to be a controversial opinion?...

p.s. This is kStyle's theory too.

Larry, since you're willing to defend against a reasoned challenge, I'll say this. I don't think that religion is the real problem. I think that religion is often the vehicle for the problem.
