My 'Pinions on E-Pinions

Anyone here dug around epinions much? Who are these people who have time to write hundreds of 200+ word reviews? One of the top E-pinions reviewers is, she is proud to note in her profile, also a top Amazon reviewer!, and, I would guess, unemployed.

(I didn't link to the web site because, really, you shouldn't waste your time.)

I never read epinions--or, for that matter, Amazon.com book reviews--because I'm not about to take a stranger's word for anything.

I suppose that the thing that drives people to post on epinions is the same thing that drives me to run a blog: a desire to express oneself, even if nobody listens.

The thing that drives people to read epinions is another matter entirely. I guess it might be potentially valuable if you are the kind of person who enjoys posting and reading epinions, because one's opinions sometimes coincide with those of people with similar interests, and if a clear majority of such people approve or disapprove of the thing you're researching.

Otherwise, it's totally useless.

On epinions, people leave comments on other people's reviews. And there are "advisors" and "leaders" who look for promising new reviewers to nurture.

It's not that I wouldn't trust a total stranger's opinion. I wouldn't trust the opinion of anyone who spends that much time reviewing products for a web site.

My blog ramblings? Well...whatever.

The other day I posted commentary on a TV show that was commenting on another TV show that was commenting on a celebrity scandal.
