1. The last knish in the box of knishes. Sad.

2. Patio furniture. At least they do in mine.

3. Honestly? The Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes thing.

1. Jar of salsa.

2. "Food". For instance, almost everything on the "Snacks" aisle.

3. Got to be unoriginal and admit I'm very curious about this fellow Jesus of Nazareth and his rising from the dead.

1. A cauliflower dish J made. At least, that's what I think it was.

2. Stamps. Have they always sold stamps, and I just never knew about it?

3. Was Lincoln really gay?

Just kidding. I'm more interested in how events become iconic rather than in what actually happened. I don't particularly want to know who killed Kennedy; I do want to know why it's so prone to conspiracy theories.

Also, I'm fascinated with people who become heroes--Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, Rosa Parks. They all seem to be so...two-dimensional. I'd like to know more about their lives and how they differ from what we know about them now.

Another weird supermarket thing: a DVD rental vending machine.

1. Tortillas, or possibly something I haven't even discovered yet.

2. Patio furniture is what instantly came to my mind, too. Also TVs and stereo equipment. These items are not weird in and of themselves, but it's weird that they are at the grocery store.

3. Today I pick the development of the television tube and the mysterious destruction of the R&D labs of the competitors to RCA. On another day I might pick the origin of the universe.

1. Oh, seeing as how I cleaned out the fridge on Wednesday, in preparation for packing it (every last thing I do these days seems to be in preparation for packing or actual moving), it's a long list. Several salsas, two eggs from January, tomato sauce from two months ago, carrots, three pickles that have been floating in their brine, uneaten, for at least a year . . . and I'm sure there was more.
2. I don't have Patty O'Furniture in my grocery store--or DVDs. but it's definitely weird that they ARE sold in supermarkets.
3. I'm going to be mildly conventional and say the Sept. 11 attacks. I don't think we have anywhere near a complete tale on that one. Bonus answer: the 2000 election.
